Pre-AP and Advanced Placement English

Basic differences between the three courses:

 

Pre-AP English II
AP English III, Language and Composition
AP English IV, Literature and Composition
teaches specific AP  reading and writing strategies to prepare students for the AP courses Equivalent :  Freshman college composition course, English 101 Equivalent: Sophomore college literature course, English 201

extensive reading of various texts

( fiction and nonfiction)

Extensive reading of nonfiction, essays, speeches Extensive reading of fiction: poetry and prose
teacher may or may not accept late work( check student handbook) Extensive writing in all modes Extensive analysis of text: literary analysis and poetry analysis

Students in the AP courses are expected to take the College Board AP exams in May.  The AP exam would be the equivalent of the final exam in a college course.  If students score a 3, 4, or 5, they should get college credit for the course.
