Pre-AP and Advanced Placement English
Pre-AP English II Teaches specific AP reading and writing strategies to prepare students for the AP courses. There will be extensive reading of various fiction and nonfiction texts. Teacher may or may not accept late work and may or may not allow students to re-test.
AP English III, Language and Composition Equivalent to a Freshman college composition course, English 101. There will be extensive reading of nonfiction, essays, speeches, writing in all modes and analysis of writer's craft and relationship between the writer and text meaning. The teacher will not accept late work and there are no retakes on major tests.
AP English IV, Literature and Composition Equivalent to a Sophomore college literature course, English 201. There will be extensive reading of fiction: poetry and prose, analysis of text, literary analysis and poetry analysis, historical context of the literature or poetry is also studied. The teacher will not late work and there are no retakes on major tests.
Students in the AP courses are expected to take the College Board AP exams in May. The AP exam would be the equivalent of the final exam in a college course. If students score a 3, 4, or 5, they should get college credit for the course.
